Popular culture indirectly teaches people how they should act and look like. I would say that pop-culture dictates what music you listen to, what clothes you wear and which morals you may and may not embrace destroying individuality. It takes a strong mind, a degree of courage and persistent determination to genuinely be different especially when you're young. I believe
Pop Culture runs
hand in hand with the young generation of the time. This is the way that generation defines itself among the other generations. For example: Elvis was an Icon for the rock & roll generation of the 50's-60's, so were
James Dean and TV Sitcoms later on. Rhianna and
Fergie are part of the Rap Culture generation of the 2000's, so are cell phones. People today reflect this in their styles. We have 'Goth", Ipods and laptops also.
Each of these generations/pop cultures tried to make themselves stand apart from the older folks of their time, each one selected particular popular figures or items from their cultures to do that. This is how I've seen Pop Culture and its influence in my life. It is a way for a new generation to stand apart from the generations before it. Basically popular culture is what we are adopting in present.
